Who are artisans?

An artisan is a worker who creates distinctive products by their hands usually in small quantities. Artisans use traditional methods which are often time consuming, require lots of patience and imagination. They have little reliance on machinery and therefore the output is limited. These are the prime reasons that make handwoven fabrics special. The artisans are also called craftswomen or craftsmen.

What are yarns?

The natural fibres from organically grown cotton are hand-spun. During the process of spinning, the fibres get interlocked resulting in long threads. These threads are called yarns from which handcrafted fabrics are made.

What are the fabric care instructions?

The colours are fixed using natural elements and may rub off. We recommend gentle washing as it helps preserve colour and fibers longer. You can hand or machine wash cold with similar colours in a gentle cycle with mild or no detergent. Do not scrub. Tumble dry low and remove promptly to avoid wrinkling. Line dry in shade, inside out to prevent colour fading. Warm iron if needed. You could hand-wash or get dry cleaned as well.

What does Peace Silk mean and why is it expensive ?

Peace Silk or Ahimsa Silk are used interchangeably. In Hindi, Ahimsa means non-violence.Regular silk is crafted by boiling silkworms alive to turn their cocoons into yarns. Their life is cut short in order to get fine quality of yarns. While, Ahimsa Silk is crafted after the silkworms complete their entire life-cycle in a natural way. The silkworm leave the cocoon with a whole which makes it very difficult and time consuming to process it into yarns since it has been cut throughout. That is also precisely why Ahimsa Silk is more expensive than regular silk.
